The definition of a double take....

"The definition of a double take is a delayed reaction to a remark or a situation where you are surprised causing you to look twice."

Is the sentence above equivalent to this one:

The definition of a double take is a delayed reaction to a remark or a situation where you are surprised and that cause you to look twice.

Top answer

" This is not a great sentence. "causing" feels dangling, even if perhaps strictly it isn't. Most probably "causing" is supposed to refer to "delayed reaction", but the amount of intervening verbiage is distracting.
