The definite article the

Hi.

Is it always true that the definite article, the, is used for a range of mountains but no article is used for single mountians.

Ex. The Andes mountains

Ex. Mount Everest.

Can you think of any exceptions? I think there are several exceptions for this rule.

Only The Matterhorn comes to mind, but then I'm not much of a student of mountains.

I've never heard that there was a rule at all! I don't know. You'd have to find the names of as many mountains and mountain ranges as you could find, and test it out yourself, I'm afraid.
