The definite article the

Hi.

Is it always true that the definite article, the, is used for a range of mountains but no article is used for single mountians.

Ex. The Andes mountains

Ex. Mount Everest.

Can you think of any exceptions? I think there are several exceptions for this rule.

Thanks

This is the Mount Everest of mountain bike climbs. So, Andes, Pyrenees, Sierra Nevadas, what other mountain ranges have you explored?

Hi.

No, we do not use the before Mount Everest.

Only The Matterhorn comes to mind, but then I'm not much of a student of mountains.

Thank you very much Jim.

That was a good example.

BTW, is the cited rule correct?

Thanks

P.S. Do you prefer to be called Jim or CalifJim?

Hi.

I think we can use 'the' before Mount Everest.

Eg: The Mount Everest is considered as the highest mountains in the world.

I am sorry. I added an 's' after 'mountain'. The sentence is:

The Mount Everest is considered as the highest mountain in the world.

Hi.

Thank you very much for your input, prajwalkr. But I still think that Mount Everest does not need to follow the definite article.

Cheers

Now I think I will go with you, hrsanei but I wish to know if my sentence is really incorrect.

Thanks.

No. Sorry. That's wrong.

I've never heard that there was a rule at all! I don't know. You'd have to find the names of as many mountains and mountain ranges as you could find, and test it out yourself, I'm afraid.

You can call me either one. Just do
