Could you please explain the usage of the definite article in the first sentence and its absence in the second one? 1. The dog is a friend of man. 2. Dogs are domestic animals. My grammar book says: 1) to represent a class of animals; 2) to refer to all members of a class. Is it only about plural\singular? Are these sentences correct: Dogs are friends of man. The dog is a domestic animal. Thank you very much!
