The correct way to use nicknames

In my story there is a character with a nickname, e.g., James "The Pope". Others interchangeably refer to him as James or as “Pope”. My question is, do I use quotations when he is called "Pope"? Here is an example:

FRANK
Let’s split up. "Pope", go with me.

Thank you very much in advance for any assistance,

Igor
