The connotation of a clause.

Speed Dating

At these events, men and women, preferably in equal numbers, gather at a lounge or club. The women take a seat; then, in a variation in musical chairs, the men move form table to table, spending seven minutes with each female.
If a pair clicks, phone numbers are exchanged before the man moves on to the next table or else departs for the evening, safe in the knowledge that he may well have met the woman of his dreams.

I'd like to know if the underlined clause implies "the man left there taking his partner with him without clicking."
Thank you in advance for your help.

I take it to mean this. If they click modifies the whole sentence. The man then either moves to the next table or goes home happily by himself.

I suppose the idea is this.
He thinks it is likely that she is the woman he has always dreamed about, so he sees no point in staying to meet other women.
