The conjecture was shown

In a mathematical context we often find sentences such as "This conjecture was shown to be true by ... ." Would it be enough to say "This conjecture was shown by ..." in a similar way as "This conjecture was proved by ... " or is this incorrect? Is it necessary to add "to be true" or "to hold" or something similar in the case of using "was shown"?

Thank you.
