The cloning of human beings or cloning human beings

Teachers, I think these two are different in style, and I'm wondering when to use one and not the other and that it is okay to change " the cloning of human beings" in the following sentence to "(the?) cloning human beings".

"Yes, because of the potential physical dangers and the profound ethical dilemmas it poses, the cloning of human beings should be prohibited"

-> (the) cloning human beings (okay?)
