(The) chocolates

Hi!

A girlfriend asked me to buy some chocolates during my trip to Switzerland. After coming back, I realized I had forgotten to buy her chocolates. Can I say:
"Gosh, I forgot to bring you chocolates!"
With no definite article before "chocolates"? We discussed "chocolates" before, but it's not specific enough to insert the definite article in my sentence. At least I don't think so.

Thanks!

If the fact that she asked you to buy chocolates is in your mind when you are having this conversation, then "I forgot to bring you the chocolates" is reasonable.

Thanks, GPY. Would "I forgot to bring you chocolates" unreasonable/incorrect? I may be wrong, but I take the absence of the definite article as "I forgot to bring you some chocolates", that's all.

I wouldn't say it's definitely incorrect. However, it seems normal to use the article. Of course, you can say it in other ways too. For example, "I forgot to get you those chocolates you wanted".

Okay, thank you! My idea was: "I forgot to buy some chocolates". Thank you!
