The children of Africa

The children of Africa are known by the liberal of us to be without food, security and hope. Therefore, it is our duty to donate as much money as we can as penance for our lifestyle, which were they to see for themselves, would certainly be thought of as an Elysium befitting to not even the most praised of their Gods.

Is this OK? I have uncertainly over the bold part.

Yes, I thought this too. How might you suggest I write it in an archaic style, say the style common of the 18th century. Please, no thees and thous!
