The chart illustrates the proportion of men and women teachers who taught students in various types of educational setting in the UK in 2010.
Overall, it is clear that there were significant differences between the percentage of males and females who taught in most of these educational settings. However, the proportion who taught in college was similar.
Among females, 95% taught in Nursery/Pre-school and a slightly lower percentage 92% taught in Primary school. Approximately 55% of women taught in Secondary school – a figure which was only slightly higher than men. While 50% of women taught in college and 48% taught in Private training institute, less than 30% of women taught in university.
In contrast, among males, only 5% taught in Nursery/Pre-school. The educational settings with the highest figures were University and Private training institute, with 70% and 53% respectively. There were followed by college and Secondary school which all had figures of between 50% and 45%. Less than 10% of males taught in Primary school
