The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart compares the proportion of private and rented households in Englands and Wales for near a century, from 1918 to 2011.

It is noticeable that in 1918, rented households took account for nearly 80% of the accommodations. Then the proportion of them leveled off in 1939 and 1953. For the next following decades, the amount of rented houses gradually decreased till it reached the bottom in 2001 at slightly above 30%. It increased by almost 3% at the beginning of the 2010s.

In 1918, the percentage of owned ones was only above 20%. But over the next few decades, it followed an upward trend till 2001, at its climax at almost 70%. Then slightly decreased to 65% in 2011.

Overall, during almost a century, the households in rented accommodation dropped by half in quantity while thereof owned state increased twofold. It was in 1971 when the percentages of the two were equal at 50%.
