Overall, while the percentage of households in rented accomodation witnessed a downward trend, the figure for households in owned accomodation had a tendency to increase.

Starting at 75% in 1918 , the percentage of family renting accomodation is triple that of family owning accomodation. The figure dropped dramatically to 50% in 1971, despite a period of stability between 1939 and 1953. Conversely, the proportion of households in owned accomodation was likely to double, with the figure standing at 30% from 1939 to 1953 before rising to equal those in rented accomodation.

From 1918 to 2021, the proportion of households in owned accomodation reached a peak of 70% and dropped slightly to 5% in 2021. The percentage of tenants saw a different pattern , experienced a gradual decline to 30% in 2021, and rose marginally by 5% in 2021.
