Grammar

the cash vs. cash

Hi!

I read the following grammar question in a TOEIC book:

“Q. All the managers receive ______ for their monthly bonuses.

(A) a cash

(B) the cash

(C) cash

(D) cashes

Correct Answer: B” ((Longman Preparations Series for the TOEIC Test: Introductory Course))

Do you agree with the TOEIC book? Isn’t C (without ‘the’) ALSO possible CORRECT ANSWER if C refers to A SPECIFIC TYPE OF payment? (If it does, the original sentence can be paraphrased as: ‘All the managers receive their bonuses IN CASH.’) What do you think? What are your opinions?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If you find any strange letter or symbol that you can't read, please let me know. Now I'm trying to find the right kind of encoding for this post.
