Grammar

The case

Can I say these?:

-These linguists invented XYZ hypothesis and ABC theory.
-We had to learn a lot of complicated grammatical items such as gender, oblique case, and dative case.

My teacher told me we must say THE XYZ/ABC hypothesis/theory and THE XYZ case in grammar; is it still true nowadays? (I learned these things a long time ago!)

If yes, can I use parallelism to justify the non-use of THE in the two sentences? (like between father and daughter, rather than between THE father and THE daughter)
