the caption/caption

Dear

I saw a sentence that " We elected him caption of our team." on TV show by a teacher.

I think the above one would be wrong because of missing "the" before caption.

So correct one would be " We elected him the caption of our team."

Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your correct.

I have another one for this.

"We elected him the presedent of our country."

Is the above also worng because "presedent" would be a role for the job?

So "We elected him presedent of our country." is correct?

Thank you again in ad.

'president' is a role, so it would normally occur in that kind of sentence without an article. However, the presence of an of-phrase may influence the choice of 'the' because that additional phrase makes 'president' a reference to a specific person. In any case, both are right, and you can always add 'the' if you are making a reference to a specific person instead of just the role.
