"The capital city of Japan" VS "Japan's capital city is Tokyo"

Dear all,

my colleague and I are struggling with the following phrases:

  • The capital city of Japan is Tokyo.
  • Japan's capital city is Tokyo.

Are they both correct? If not, why?

Thank you so much.

We don't usually add "city".

The capital of Japan is Tokyo is the usual formulation.
