Hello,
I'm reading a text about bullying and I can't figure out why sometimes "bystander" takes "the", and why sometimes it has no article in the front, e.g. "The triad consists of bully, victim and bystander, each immersed in a large group dynamic that impacts all members of the school", "The bystander is not a passive wallflower with little impact on the evolution of victimization, but is a key component to it (...)", "We know that bystanders are less likely to intervene when others outside the immediate systemare present (....)"
The same happens to bullying itself, e.g. "There is some vicarious benefit experienced by standing by and watching: it is safe and there is little doubt that given the choice, they would prefer that the bullying stop and that everybody gets along" , " (...) that bullying results from a 'complex strategic situation,' not from any single person."
Can you, please, explain to me why it is so?
Thank you
You are very observant. Hotmale The triad consists of bully, victim and bystander The article is often omitted in lists except for the first thing mentioned: There was a book , pen and pencil on the table. The reason for the omission of the article before bully is that bully and victim are sort of opposites.
