(The) broken glass

Dear Teachers and Native Speakers,

The soldiers came to our house and sacked and destroyed whatever they saw. When we got back, we inspected the house. We walked through the broken glass and the smashed furniture. It was sad.

Are the articles okay before "broken glass" and "smashed furniture"? Neither was mentioned, but I think the context makes it clear (the house was vandalized), so there is no confusion.
