Which of the sentences below is grammatically correct?
1) The boulevard by the river is a favourite place for walking in town.
2) The boulevard by the river is the favourite place for walking in town.
3) The boulevard by the river is the people's favourite place for walking in town. (the people = people who live in this town)
#1 sounds most natural to me.
#2 makes sense because there is just one favourite place so 'the' is appropriate there.
#3 sounds odd to me, however, I think that this one is most precise since when I hear #1 I start wondering "whose favourite? maybe speaker's?". I know that this is not a likely interpretation (because then the speaker would have said "my favourite") and probably it means that generally people prefer to walk there, but for some reason I feel like it was open to interpretation.

They are all grammatically correct. Only #1 sounds native to me. In reality, it is unlikely that there is only one 'favorite' place. People have different opinions.
The part that does not sound right is 'walking in town'.
