The Bishop's Candlesticks

In the play The Bishop's Candlesticks, is Persome the Bishop's own sister or is she someone like a nun or a widow? Persome is addressed by the Bishop as sister, but when talking about the candlesticks, the Bishop says "MY mother gave me these .... ".ThanksKRK
