The binary format or binary format

Which one is grammatically correct?

1) You want to output a number in binary format.
2) You want to output a number in the binary format.

As far as I'm concerned, I think 1) is correct.
If only 1) is correct, could you please also explain why we don't use 'the' before the words 'binary format'?
Is "binary format" considered an uncountable noun?

Could you please shed some light on me?
