The biggest events/event

At night, viewers are treated to a magical display as balloons are lit from their burners. However, the biggest events of the fiesta are the mass ascensions.

The above is from an article named "Albuquerue International Balloon Fiesta." I think "event" should be used instead of "events" because there is only one event, right? Thanks.

Thanks, MalRey.

I know the other parts of the sentence must match up.
