It is believed that environmental issues might be tackled by inflating the price of petroleum. In my opinion, other measures should also be given equal consideration.
On the one hand, increasing the price of fuel for cars cannot minimize global dependence on the use of vehicles. It should be noticed that even when the price of petroleum reached a peak, people still cannot cut down the tremendous demand for petrol. For example, in 2021, when the prices increase, people would still travel by their preferred form of transport on a daily basis and the problems of traffic and pollution would remain. Furthermore, many machines and other applications in manufacturing industries and agricultural purposes hence if the price of fuel increases, the national economy could suffer many negative consequences.
On the other hand, personally, raising fuel costs is not the best solution. These problems are too massive to be solved by raising fuel costs. Instead of that, people should focus on applying to productive and effective renewable sources such as wind, solar and water, which would be superior as these sources are less finite and pollution-free. For instance, wind and tidal power in the Netherlands, nuclear power in Japan and solar power in the United States have all proven their efficiency in energy production. These could be employed in other nations so minimize the global dependence on the fuel.
In conclusion, it seems evident that solving environmental pollution by increasing the price for petroleum is not an efficient way so giving priority to renewable energy is preferable.
