The best way for governments to solve the problem of traffic congestion is providing free public transport in 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is no denying that nowadays terrible traffic jam is increasingly becoming an alarming problem of various countries in the world. It is sometimes believed that the most effective measure government officials should develop to tackle this issue is supplying residents with more means of public transport without charge all the time. However, I personally think that beside free public vehicles, there are other methods we should take into account.

On the one hand, I believe that free-of- charge public transportation plays an essential role in dealing with the traffic congestion. This is mainly because it will make a contribution to lessen the private vehicles on the road. For instance, some citizens can travel to work by unpaid electric mini bus to economize on many bills such as petrol cost, entrance fees… Therefore, it is understandable why commuters are encouraged to use public transport irrespective of time.

On the other hand, I hold the view that there are more useful methods instead of this way. First of all, the policies relevant to infrastructure improvement should be implemented as soon as possible. In other word, governments had better invest in updating the quality of road network and installing more modern traffic calming equipment. Needless to say, this could decrease the traffic state in rush hours considerably. Another way that we should take into consideration is cutting down the population density. To be more precise, hospitals, universities and factories in some urban centers should be removed to the suburban areas. Undoubtedly, this will be beneficial to reducing densely population at the peak time.

In conclusion, it can be said that providing free transport for community is one of the great ways in limiting the heavy traffic. Besides, my personal view is that there are several other effective measures we can make use of. It is advised that the traffic system should be upgraded appropriately in mega cities.
