Can we use the phrase "the below" like this?

[in formal writing -- it is about an email that  follows this line]

The below is not easy to understand without further context. Please email us the required details.

  • Though, I couldn't find in the dictionary that "below" might be a noun I think it could follow the pattern of the preposition "up" which is listed as a noun in dictionaries.

I think it is a noun. Though, I couldn't find in the dictionary that "below" might be a noun I think it could follow the pattern of t

I wouldn't use this phrase at all. I'd say 'the following' or 'the email below'.

No. You need a noun in between. the paragraph below, the diagram below, the email below, the sentence below, etc.

I see this from time to time. For me, it is somewhat unattractive jargon. MW does actually list "below" as a noun, but there are no examples so it is not clear whether they are condoning this exact use.
