It may not be incorrect.

"You will see something like the above." is idiomatic. "The below" is rare in my experience. I can't say for sure that I've ever heard it. (Others may have).

I would use "the following." Of course it doesn't always work when what you're referring to is a couple of paragraphs below.

I've heard that strictly speaking 'below' only works as an adverb.
