The before the bus number

Hello,can you please tell me if a bus number must be proceeded by "the"?"Take the bus 50 and it will take you to the airport."Thank you

By why? I was taught that we say "do exercise 2" and "open the book on page 10". Why is it different with the bus number?

For one thing, buses are not numbered sequentially.

I mean pages are in order page 1, then page 2, then page 3, and so on, and the same for exercises. If you talk about "bus 50", it sounds a bit like each individual bus is numbered in that way, in some sort of logical sequence. "number 50 bus", on the other hand, is the normal way of describing a bus plying route 50.
