" Compared to the other two, this use of "looked" is slang, in my opinion. He was looking to get his clock cleaned. (sarcastic) It has more to do with purpose and intention than with seeking something.

I wouldn't include "looked to." Compared to the other two, this use of "looked" is slang, in my opinion.

He was looking to get his clock cleaned. (sarcastic)

It has more to do with purpose and intention than with seeking something.

He looked to make a quick killing at the roulette wheel.

Edit.

I don't mean the band wouldn't say, "We're finally looking to go on stage."

I mean, the other two expressions are traditional and would be understood by everyone. This one is a bit esoteric.
