Hello,

Why is the auxiliary do sometimes omitted in questions?
eg.,

'What day really starts a new week?'

It can be considered as a seperate type of a question.

There are special questions, when you use question words like "when", "what", "where", "how"....
Usually the question has the following word order:
Question word + auxiliary + subject + predicate + ...
ex. When do you plan to visit me?
ex. What do you prefer - tea or coffee?
