The article in front of a noun preceeded with an adjective

Hello everybody."I needed a red pencil and I took a pencil from the table. Using the red pencil was really cool."1) Can I say "the red pencil" as the second mention of a pencil from the first sentence?2) Does it say that that pencil or the usage of it is unique in some way? Or it says nothing of this kind and just refers to the pencil already introduced?3) What's a difference in meaning here:"I needed a red pencil and I took a pencil from the table. Using a red pencil was really cool."?Thanks in advance.

You can, but it really isn't very natural. This is natural:

"I needed a red pencil and I took one from the table. Using that red pencil was really cool."

This describes one experience of picking a particular pencil (from among others) and enjoying using it. Compare with this:

"I needed a red pencil and I took one from the table. Using a red pencil was really cool."

The quality of redness in color was what you enjoyed, not one pencil in particular.

I feel it's worth saying that I have just recreated my account. I already used this forum, and you might remember me by my constant questions about the usage of articles (however, maybe there are many people here who ask about them all the time)

1) "If I omit "I needed a red pencil.." part, can I say "Using the red pencil..." ?
Do these sentences itself provide enough information for the listener to understand that the pencil I took was red, without any preceding context?

2) Can I append an adjective after the definite article even if in my first reference I used no adjective, like in the example above?
