Then, how about "I go to the library every Saturday" or "I go to the town every Sunday?" Even if the listener doesn't know anything about the library or town, can I use 'the' and they can be interpreted as 'that type of library' and 'that type of town' respectively?

The first is natural; in the second (unless you live far in the countryside) we omit the article because 'town' means 'downtown'.

Are all of 'go downtown', 'go to downtown', and 'go to the downtown' okay? How about 'go town'?
