The and A as a prefix

In the library when we used to have index cards all of the books which started with The or A wasn't grouped together. So you'll have a book called: The Land Before Time in the L section and it will be listed as:
Land Before Time, The
is there an actual term for this solution?

I asked my local librarian if she knew of a term, and she spent 25 minutes of research, simply because she wanted to know the answer herself. No luck, but she made me promise to let her know if anyone answers it here.
