In 1999, a Los Angles rabbi named Yacov Deyo published a book called Speed Dating: The Smarter, Faster Way to Lasting Love. Rabbi Deyo's purpose was to help Jewish singles mingle and meet through so-called speed-dating events. At these events, men and women, preferably in equal numbers, gather at a lounge or club. The women take a seat; then, in a variation in musical chairs, the men move form table to table, spending seven minutes with each female.

I'd like to know why "mingle and meet" don't have any object.
I'd like to know "in equal numbers" what meaning "in" has.
