The analyses of a text #1

The protagonist is a royal family member of Amber.
Random is the king of Amber.
Luke is the best friend and a cousin of him.
Luke's father was killed by one of Amber's prince, his brother Caine for his treacherous behaviors, and Luke killed Caine and have tried to kill every royal family member of Amber for revenge.
The protagonist is now talking to Luke.

"I don't want to make you feel any worse than you do about it, but your old man was psycho; you must know that. And you're not. I know you as well as you know me. I've been thinking about this for some time. You know, Amber recognizes the personal vendetta. You've got an arguable case there for one. And the death didn't even occur within Amber, if Random were really looking for an out for you."
["Trumps of Doom" of The Great Book of Amber by Roger Zelazny]
I'd like to know what "for one" means here.
I think the underlined clause means "Luke can get away with the killing of Caine."
So I was wondering why it is "didn't," not "wouldn't."
