the act or practice of selfishly advancing one's own ends

1self-seeking
the act or practice of selfishly advancing one's own ends
[M-W's Col. Dic.]

Suppose selfishly was omitted from the above definition then it would not mean that the act or practice of advancing one's own interests at the expense of harming other person's interests or without regard to next person's feelings. selfishly tells that the person doesn't care about other persons' interests or feelings.
