The acceptability of these sentences

1. John {intentionally/deliberately} sounded like he was in trouble.

2. It {intentionally/deliberately} sounded like John was in trouble.


Do these sentences make sense? (Are they acceptable?)

I don’t believe either does. Am I correct?

#1 is odd but understandable. #2 does not make sense.
