Grammar

'The'

Whenever you talk about musical instruments, do you always have to add 'the' before it? In either spoken/written form.

for example:
1. I've play the piano for 8 years now.
2. Can you play the violin?
3. Are you playing the drums(or drum?) in the performance?

Is it grammatically incorrect to say:

1. I've play piano for 8 years now.
2. Can you play the violin?
3. Are you playing drums(or drum?) in the performance?

Thank you
