Hi,
Would you please tell me if "the" is: 1) necessary 2) not necessary, but true 3) incorrect
In this sentence

While I cleaned the car, my wife was preparing (HERE) lunch.

Thanks, but I thought that lunch is somehow is known. It's not any lunch, that is lunch of that day! So, I preferred "the".

PS I didn't understand that if either way is correct, or only without the version is correct.
