I have a doubt here. Why couldn't (Is 'couldn't' the correct word to use?) I say 'It was ten years ago since I met him?' Or should I say 'It was ten years ago since I last met him'?

"Since" and "ago" are not used togther.

It is ten years since I met him My first meeting with him took place ten years ago
It is ten years since I last met him The last time I met him was ten years ago
