A train in the distance is approaching you and you say "That/This train has two funnels on top"

A train is passing in front of you and you say "That/this train has two funnels on top".

Which choice is correct?

I think you mean funnel.

I would not refer to them as chimneys.

I would limit it to buildings. Factories have chimneys, for example.

You said "on the top". Everyone knows the chimney/funnel of a steam loco is "on the top" so it adds nothing and at the same time waters down the rest of the sentence. Although it is not the same, it is similar in some respects to htt
