That's where the scent is coming from. (relative clause)

Hi,

That's where the scent is coming from.

I'm wondering if the words "the place" were before the "where the scent...." and left out, like this:

That's the place where the scent is coming from. or if "the place that" has changed into just "where", like this:That's the place that the scent is coming from. since there is the pronoun "from" at the end. Thanks!

Hi

To emphasize a place, time or reason we can use:

the place where ...
the day when ...
the reason why ...

In informal styles, the place/the day/the reason can be dropped. Often times this happens if it's somewhere in the middle of the sentence. And this holds true for your sentences too, if I'm not mistaken.
