That would be Tom,

Hello, I have been thankful to everyone here for your help. Although English is not easy to learn, it is definitely worth learning it. Thank you again.

And all of a sudden, I would like to know which sentences are omitted in these sentences:

That would be Tom,

That could be true,

That would be the milkman,

I know they are fine themselves but I have learned that sentences with if clauses are omitted.

But I can not think of any omitted sentences there. Could you please tell me your opinions? Thank you again and I

hope to hear from you.

That would be Tom, That could be true. That would be the milkman. There are no omitted clauses, and it is a mistake to try to posit such.

  • That would be Tom, That could be true.
  • That would be the milkman.
  • There are no omitted clauses, and it is a mistake to try to posit such.
  • Doing so is merely an effort to squeeze the sentences into Procrustean forms.
  • #1 and #3 are 'would' used for predictability; #2 indicates possibility.

There are no omitted clauses, and it is a mistake to try to posit such. Doing so is merely an effort to squeeze the sentences into Procrustean forms. #1 and #3 are 'would' used for predictability; #2 indicates possibility. All 3 indicate polite hesitation from assurance.
