That was some storm we had last night.

0 Hello. I am reading a conversation and one of the speakers says: 02br
02br
00"That was some storm we had last night". 02br
02br
00My question is, the word "some" means a few or a little. Why is it used differently when talking about a big storm? What does some mean exactly? 02br
02br
00Thank you. 0-

00Can you tell me the difference between, 02br

02br
00c) She was some girl. 02br
00d) She was A **** OF a girl. ?? 0-

0 There may be a difference of emphasis, and perhaps a slight difference in meaning between "some girl" and "a *** of a girl" but I think the major difference may lie in the attitude of the speaker. Perhaps you have another idea? [:^)] 0-

00How about when you apply, "some" and "a **** of" to the noun "difference". e.g. 02br
02br
00i) That's some difference. 02br
00ii) That's a **** of a difference. 02br
02br
00Are the meanings slighly different too?? 0-

00There are some words which the forum will not accept. Just put an 'e' where the * is, and you'll see the word. 02br
02br
00This is standard practice in English; if we wish to write a word which may be offensive to some, we replace the vowel with *** 0-

00In Br.E I think this would be used in an ironical sense, but may also be used as in AmE to indicate a large difference. 02br
