"That was..." or "That were..."?

Hi
At the beginning, I'm sorry for my bad English.
Let's say there was a situation where 2 people interrupted and then they left a room. So what should i say "That/This/It WAS my COUSINS" or "That/This/It WERE my COUSINS" or something else?

In order to be grammatical, your sentence should be,

Those (people) were my cousins.

However, I don't fully understand the scenario you describe (about their being interrupted, etc.)
