Can 'what' be replaced with 'the thing that/which' or not? and , 'what' is used as object or subject?
"That she might be right is what frightens me." (I not sure the role of what here)
"What you said was totally wrong". (what here is object of verb said)
What I had forgotten was that I had a test today. (What here is object of verb forgotten)
Thanks.

As I've learned: "A clause must contain at least one verb and one subject", so what is the subject in the bold part which is a noun clause?
"That she might be right is what frightens me."
That she might be right is what frightens me.
what is the subject; frightens is the verb.
