That or this

Hi

Let's say it's Monday morning and I want to ask sb about his plans for Monday's afternoon. Which pronoun is appropriate for the question?

What do you plan to do this afternoon?
What do you plan to do that afternoon?

Many thanks

Hi Julius: Welcome to the Forums! This is correct, referring to the current day. It doesn't matter what time it is now.

Hi Julius:
Welcome to the Forums!

This is correct, referring to the current day. It doesn't matter what time it is now. Even if it is late in the evening, you can say
"This morning I went to the doctor."
