That--noun clauses

Do you find that including the often omitted 'that' at the head of a noun clause is sometimes awkward sounding?

The way the iPhone turns off the sreen when on a call is that it uses both a light and proximity sensor.

My thought is that the that is so often omitted in some sentences that it just sounds almost wrong including it.

Ta

I concur in your observation. Where have you been lately? I believe you're only the second person to use "Ta" in these hallowed halls.

Hi A,

First of all, thank you for concuring; I was quite certain I would be on my own with this one. Sometimes I find its inclusion so cumbersome I second guess it would even be correct including it. I then have to sit there, scratching my head trying to decide if what I'm dealing with is in fact a darn noun clause! Man, I sound stupid just now. I better thing of something clever to say.

English 1b3How is your English coming along?
I still struggle with definitions, but continue to have confidence about usage. I marvel at the ease with which CJ plays the field, choosing the right approach to reach each questioner - sort of a pan-grammatical position.
There are so many conflicting approaches out there!
