That is associated or that associated

1 A bandwidth domain is everything that is associated with one port on a bridge or switch. In the case of an Ethernet switch a bandwidth doman is also known as a collision domain.

2 A bandwidth domain is everything that associated with one port on a bridge or switch. In the case of an Ethernet switch a bandwidth doman is also known as a collision domain.

Which is the correct one out of the above two? I guess the it is not necessary to say 'that is associated' . It would be fine to say 'that associated with'.

The first is the correct one. These sentences are definitional, so they use present tense. Without "is" to make "associated" a past participal there is no marker of present tense.

On the other hand, if you remove the "that", you remove the marker for a relative clause. By doing that you are forced to remove the "is", and "associated" becomes a participle directly modifying "everythin
