"That" in a different context

So, my question is this. Say you have a sentence like this one: "As the flowers that sprang from all the nearby surfaces..." What part of speech would "That" be categorized as? I'm sorry if I'm not very clear here...

To me, it's a relative pronoun. "That sprang etc." is an essential relative clause, telling which flowers. "That" is the subject of the clause. The antecedent is "flowers."
