A certain guy was a caretaker at a cemetery. He left his job a few months ago, but now he came back again.
When he came back at the cemetery he explored its grounds, noting where work needed to be done that he would get to the next day. He was once more the official caretaker of hallowed ground.
I'm not sure what the author of this sentence wanted to say by "that he would get to the next day"?
